Before you set out
- Organize a group you know. Big Walk has no random matchmaking, and the adventure is designed for returning groups.
- Pick one regular host. The host owns the save and must start every returning session. Choose the person with the most reliable schedule.
- Agree on the world version. The 2, 3, or 4+ choice adapts the world to your expected minimum group size.
- Test chat before you leave. Voice and text both react to distance and the environment, so agree on fallbacks early.
Communication tips
- Stay in the in-game chat. External calls bypass the separation and misunderstanding that the puzzles are built on.
- Learn the gestures. Pointing, waving, and flailing are real tools when words fail.
- Use walkie-talkies for distance. Handheld radios carry communication further than normal speech in the build’s design.
- Quiet microphone? Raise the system input. Launch-week players report quiet voice with no in-game gain slider; the operating-system mic level is the workaround.
Exploration & carrying
- One object at a time, by default. Portable equipment is physical: you hold one thing and can drop it after a tumble.
- Watch for backpacks and holsters. They appear to expand carrying options, though exact slot counts are not yet verified.
- Use telescopes and signal tools for orientation. Fixed telescopes and tower landmarks appear throughout the map’s zone labels.
- Take the long way. The game rewards wandering; rushing past an area often means missing its puzzle lead.
Launch-week workarounds
- Voice delayed or missing? Connection is usually the cause — see the voice chat guide for reported fixes.
- Cross-platform session fails? Confirm everyone is on the latest version, then try a fresh Join Code — see the crossplay guide.
- Performance concerns? Check the official specs and launch reports in the system requirements guide.
