Big Walk: the questions players actually ask
Sourced from Steam discussions, reviews, and Reddit since launch: the questions that keep coming up, answered with official facts, patch notes, and labelled community evidence.

“Can I play solo?” / “Can I play with strangers?”
No to both — and it is the single most common ask on the Steam forum. The official FAQ is unambiguous: sessions are for 2–12 players, there is no single-player mode, and the game is designed for a group that returns across multiple sessions rather than random matchmaking. Players organize groups themselves through the Steam community hub and friend lists; since v1.4.9 the host also sets a Session Password, so walk-up joining is not a thing by design. If you own the game and have nobody to play with, community spaces — not the game — are the matchmaking layer. For everything cross-platform, see the crossplay guide.
“How long is Big Walk?”
Review aggregates land at roughly 7–12 hours for a first journey (TheGamer estimates 7–10 for a smooth group, GameRant 9–12 for most players), with completionist runs around 15 hours (Insider Gaming’s two-player run; SmashPad echoes the figure). HowLongToBeat’s aggregate sits near 16 hours. None of these are official figures — House House publishes no length estimate.
“What do we do after the ending?” spoiler-light
The first finale is not the finish line — press coverage (GameSpot called the ending a
“gut punch”) and community guides agree the game continues. After the first ending,
seven purple endgame puzzles appear across the island; solving
everything leads to the true ending. The build backs the shape of this: two ending
achievement IDs exist, Ending1 (“Finish the game”) and Ending2 (“Completely finish the game”), re-confirmed in the v1.5.1
inspection. A lead, not a fact: the seven purple puzzles plausibly correspond to the
seven named gauntlet chambers in the build — in-game reproduction is still pending.
“Why can’t I hear my friends? Why is everything so loud?”
The most-quoted negative review line of launch week was “Needs different audio sliders, in-game sounds are way too loud, player voices way too quiet.” That complaint has a patch history now: v1.4.8 (August 7) normalized voice output, and v1.5.1 (August 28) added separate volume sliders — Master, Music, Ambience, Effects, and Player Voices — under Options → Audio. If voices still feel buried, the mix fix is in the menu, not your headset. See the voice chat guide for the full patch-by-patch story.
“Does it run on Steam Deck?”
Yes — Big Walk is Steam Deck Verified (the badge landed about two weeks before launch, per Steam Deck HQ), and ProtonDB lists a Platinum rating. Handheld play is a supported way to walk.
“Are there mods? Does it work in VR?”
No official mod support has been announced — no mod tools, no workshop, and installing third-party mods is undocumented territory (modded clients can also break crossplay sessions, so treat them as single-player-group experiments at your own risk). VR is not supported either: the verified platforms are PC, Mac, PS5, and Switch 2, and “Big Walk VR” searches run into fan-made concepts, not a real product. If that changes, it will appear in the official version history.
“Can I keep two saves for two different groups?”
Yes, and Reddit threads keep rediscovering how: the journey save belongs to the host. Play with your sibling on one host and your friend group on another, and those are two independent journeys. The patch history matters for long-running groups: v1.4.9 added save-loss protection, and v1.5.1 fixed a bug that could reset saves that predated it — one more reason to keep everyone on the current build (see patch notes). There is also no published way to move a save between hosts or copy a save file to a friend — “send save file” searches have no official answer yet.
“Why is walking so slow?”
A recurring review gripe — one Reddit write-up flatly said “walking is way too slow.” House House has not published a response, and the v1.5.1 build offers no movement-speed setting: the options patches added frame-rate limits, invert-look, vsync, and volume sliders, nothing about pace. Slowness is the design — the world’s distance and environment are the game’s communication layer — but if your group bounces off it, that is a real, commonly reported friction, not just you.
“Is it still free on PS Plus?” / “What does it cost now?”
The PS Plus claim window for the PS5 version closed on August 31, 2026; players who claimed it in time keep it under PlayStation Plus terms. Everyone else buys it: the US Steam list price is $19.99, with the 25% launch discount ended and regional pricing set per store. The game passed one million copies sold in six days, so the PS Plus giveaway did not stop sales.
“What games are like Big Walk?”
The closest verified neighbours: PEAK — the game Big Walk is officially bundled with on Steam, another 2026 co-op climber built on proximity voice — and Untitled Goose Game, House House’s previous game (same studio, very different format). If what you liked was walking and talking with friends, the genre press usually files Big Walk alongside other “friendslop” co-op adventures; if it was the gentle puzzle exploration, House House’s back catalogue is the safest next stop.
