Big Walk multiplayer: players, hosting & sessions

Big Walk is an online cooperative game for 2–12 players. It has no random matchmaking: every session starts with a group you already know.

Player count and sessions

Two to twelve players can share an online session. There is no full single-player mode: you can start a session alone and explore, but the smallest world version expects at least two people and the puzzles are designed for a group.

The host selects a world version (2-player, 3-player, or 4+-player) when the journey begins. That choice adapts parts of the experience to the expected minimum group size; it does not reduce the overall 12-player maximum.

Hosting and saves

The host owns the save. That person must start the session whenever the group wants to continue the same journey. Because there is no matchmaking, a dependable, recurring host is the most important setup decision your group makes.

Joining a session

Friends on the same platform can find the host in the in-game friends menu. Everyone else can use a short Join Code generated when the host starts a session—the simplest option for mixed-platform groups. Crossplay works between Steam on Windows, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.

What has not been announced

  • No split-screen or local couch co-op has been announced.
  • Account-level cross-progression is not officially documented; the confirmed rule is that the host owns the journey save.
  • There is no random matchmaking or quick-play system.
